Additionally, writer Jerome Wright, reporter for the Commercial Appeal, recently wrote a story on:  Secular roots: Churches' resources make a difference - More churches see the economic health of their communities as part of their spiritual mission where he detailed how the committment and ministry of Oasis of Hope are making a difference in the lives of those they employ as well as the community at large.

Oasis Appliance is a non-profit economic outreach of Oasis of Hope helping to improve the economic environment in North Memphis.  The purpose of Oasis Appliance is to benefit an area of North Memphis that has suffered years of economic decline. The business provides quality, pre-owned appliances at significantly reduced prices. It also is an avenue for Oasis of Hope to conduct on-the-job training and provide neighborhood employment.  Currently 4 men from the neighborhood work in the store.

There are four ways you can help make this outreach a success:  1) donate your used appliance, 2)  volunteer to work in our store, 3) volunteer to help pick up appliance donations, and 4) shop in our store.  Your donations and involvement litterally help create jobs!

Oasis Appliance has had consistent sales and profitability.  Therefore, when offered an affordable large storefront with attached warehouse storage, Oasis knew this was the expansion opportunity we were looking for!  Many thanks to Dale Kennedy, John & David Clark and the Men's Group for the time and labor put into renovating the new storefront.

If you're interested in getting involved and helping out, following are ways we need your help:

>> Clean-Up Volunteers- One Saturday per month from 8:30am-noon at the Oasis warehouse in North Memphis:  Simply come to scrub or help coordinate and organize the cleaning up of donated appliances.

>> Pick-Up Volunteers- One Saturday per month from 9am-noon:  Pick-up appliances from donors and deliver them to 1294 N Thomas Street (2 guys and a truck).

>> In-Store Volunteers- Work at Oasis Appliance Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday from 10am-2pm, or Saturday from 10am-noon:  Assist with daily store operations (customer service, cash register, cleaning up, inventory, etc).

>> Appliance Donations- Drop-offs and pick-ups: Call (527-0074) or email Terrice during the week to arrange for pick-up of your appliance(s).  Tax donation receipts are available for your donation.
