Developing Young Christian Leaders - Oasis of Hope ministers through life-on-life relationships with more than 100 youth through our weekly programming. Our various outreaches touch more than 850 youth each year. The multiple points of impact allow for several people to speak truth into their lives, increasing the likelihood of better decision making during the crucial formative years of life.

• 18 middle/high school students participated in weekly Bible studies.

• 29 youth attended summer Bible camp (Kids Across America & For The Kingdom).

• 7 youth received mentoring through relationships with our adult volunteers.

• 10 volunteers tutored students, weekly in our neighborhood schools.

• 22 elementary children improved their reading, through our weekly Read 2 Succeed program.

• 190 students received backpacks filled with the essential school supplies.

• 14 prom dresses were provided to young women on a fixed income.

• 650 youth participated in the annual neighborhood Easter Egg Hunt.

• 90 youth learned more about God through Vacation Bible School (VBS).

• 18 youth played on the Oasis Basketball teams.

• 18 youth participated in Manassas High Baseball with our volunteer coaches/mentors.

• 60 youth participated in Manassas High School Football with our volunteer coaches/mentors.

• 25 youth received bicycle repair training, bike outings, and credits toward earning a bike through The Bike Shop.

• 13 ladies received life skills and spiritual growth through our Young Women’s Ministry.

Empowering Neighborhood Adults- Oasis of Hope is directly involved in the lives of more than 130 adults in the community through weekly programs. Our various outreaches touch more than 1,000 residents each year.

• 45 neighborhood families obtained quality, affordable housing through our ministry partnerships.

• 51 new homes to be completed through the Bearwater Park development.

• 17 families assisted through the personal finance ministry, including basic financial classes.

• 725 individual and family income taxes filed at our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site over the past 6 years, saving families approximately $1.5 million in tax credits and filing fees! This has been accomplished by a volunteer team of 18 faithful individuals logging in more than 1,800 volunteer hours.

• 16 neighborhood residents received job training and part-time employment through Oasis Appliance, Sweet-Shirt ministry and Oasis Toy Store.

• 400+ customers obtained affordable and reliable appliances through Oasis Appliance.

• 230+ parents were empowered annually to purchase affordable Christmas Toys for their children at the annual Oasis Toy Store and approximately 1,000+ kids enjoyed Christmas more.

• 73 senior citizens received support and needed services from our weekly Seniors’ Program. Last year this included: weekly exercise, arts & crafts, ceramics, computer lab, Bible studies, doctor visits, daily hot lunches, 6 field trips, 7 special events, 12 guest speakers and $450 in utility vouchers per senior.

• 300+ community residents celebrated unity & fun at the annual Fall Festival.

• 247 neighborhood families were provided a Thanksgiving basket and turkey.

This holistic approach to Christian community development maximizes life change potential as it addresses the multiple aspects of poverty. Programs such as biblical discipleship, education, recreation, employment, business development, affordable housing, community celebration, financial assistance/education and senior citizen care performed together have the dynamic potential to radically transform a community. We thank God for everyone who is concerned about our city and lives in our neighborhood!

The Flowers Family:  Chequila Flowers and her family first learned about Oasis of Hope in 2004, after their house on Manassas St. burned to the ground. That was a very difficult time for Chequila, Richard and their three sons, Quanterrius, Ricshawn, and Treveon. The boys needed uniforms for school, and they were told of an organization that might be able to help—Oasis of Hope. That Christmas, Oasis also helped connect the Flowers family with a family from Hope who provided gifts and toys for them so that they would have something under their tree. And since that time, Chequila and her family have been a strong part of the Oasis ministry in the neighborhood.

In 2006 Chequila lost her job, and while looking for work used her time volunteering with one of our after-school programs. Later she became the first paid employee at the Oasis Appliance Store, while going to school to receive Tennessee Early Childhood Training Alliance (TECTA) training. Chequila now works at Noah’s Ark Day Care Center, and is and has completed her Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential. Last year they moved into one of our Hope Houses, providing more affordable housing for the family.

Quanterrius was one of the winners chosen for the “Do The Write Thing” competition for his paper on violence and how it affects the community. All three boys played on the Oasis of Hope – baseball and basketball teams, participated in Read-2-Succeed, and attended Kids Across America Bible Camp. Quanterrius and Ricshawn are in our middle & high school Bible study groups. The family continues to volunteer for many Oasis programs, such as the Easter Egg Hunt, the Fall Festival, Hope Houses and more.

The Flowers family is one example of the relationships that are being built in the community that are having an impact – thanks to those faithfully involved in Oasis of Hope.
